Nicholas Ghanma’s practice focuses primarily on advising founders, startups and early to mid-stage companies. Nick also assists clients with transactional and corporate matters, negotiating and drafting agreements and other contracts, and advises clients on general corporate, securities, licensing, and intellectual property issues.
Nick began his legal career at the Chicago office of Mayer Brown LLP, as an associate in the firm’s Corporate and Securities practice. There Nick advised clients on corporate transactions and other matters including mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, private fund formation, licensing of intellectual property and complex finance and loan agreements. Nick has worked in the legal department of a large broker-dealer and FCM, has served as in-house counsel for a hedge fund, and has experience as a financial advisor with a prominent asset management and advisory firm. He has held FINRA series 6, 7, 63 and 66 licenses, and health and life insurance licenses from the State of Hawaii and State of Illinois.
Nick also has experience in the not-for-profit arena advising clients in philanthropic entity formation and tax reporting, and in the publishing industry advising publishers on acquisitions, author contracts, licensing agreements and electronic publishing rights. Nick worked with the Wills for Heroes Program where he advised Chicago Police officers and their families on estate planning issues and drafted wills for them on a pro bono basis.
Nick graduated cum laude from the DePaul University College of Law. He is licensed to practice law in Illinois, Ohio and Hawaii.
